Full Description

RCHME survey of 85 & 86 High Street. 'House, now two houses (85 & 86 High Street), is of two storeys with attics timber-framed and plastered; the roofs are tiled. It was built late in the 16th century and extended W in the 17th century. There is a late 18th century wing at the back. The upper storey formerly projected both at the front and the back of the main block but has been underbuilt. Inside the buildings are some exposed ceiling-beams and there is an original doorway with hollow-chamfered frame and four centred head. Condition- Good, much altered.<1> Now demolished

Photograph's showing the demolition of No's 85 & 86 High Street. One shows the exposed timberwork on the frontage (although this looks very late) another shows interior beams and door arch of late medieval date also part of the cellar is exposed with a brick arched recess visible.<2>
