Full Description
A pre-Boudican Roman building discovered during excavations at the Telephone Exchange Site in 1966 (ECC657). Evidence for the building took the form of wattle and daub walls resting on timber sleeper beams, the charcoal remains of which were preserved in situ. This 'house' was built over the clay capped remains of the military building which previously stood on the site (see MCC1572). Internal features included several small pits and post holes. The building was separated from a timber-lined drain to the west by a gravelled area. The house was probably of two or more phases and was destroyed in the Boudican revolt.<1>
