Full Description

Probable Roman wall recorded in Engineering trial pit at Mercury Theatre. Large septaria pieces in yellow brown mortar. <1>

Traces of robbed out North-south Roman wall in trenches T9, T11 & T12 of 1997 Excavation at Mercury Theatre appear to be same structure as above. This may also relate to MCC2030 which was on roughly the same alignment but had evidence of a wooden pile foundation. May also relate to the Roman buildings excavated by Blake (MCC1607 or MCC1642). However, his trenches were not plotted accurately and there is insufficient evidence. <2><3>
