Full Description

A red tessellated pavement recorded by William Wire in the rear garden of 18 North Hill.<1><2><3>

A small trial trench was excavated ahead of the construction of an access ramp into the rear garden of No.18 North Hill. The trench revealed a small patch of Roman tessellated paving at a depth of 1.5m. The tessellated pavement is likely to be part of the pavements recorded by Wire between 1845-1847 (see ECC161).<4>
