Full Description
A shallow drainage ditch uncovered during excavations at Culver Street (see ECC337) between 1981-2 and 1984-5. The ditch was one of a pair (with MCC1138) which, although not necessarily contemporary, both served to demarcate the western edge of a cultivated area (MCC855) which lined up with the arched drain on the west side of a building to the north (MCC923). At the south-west corner of the Insula the ditch changed direction, turning eastwards, after which it seemed to run as one (MCC1140) with the parallel ditch. The ditches may have been robbed-out timber drains.<1>
