Full Description

A programme of historic building recording was carried out by Colchester Archaeological Trust in August 2018 and April 2019. <1>

The majority of the building has its origins in the 19th century, including a large building on the frontage of the High Street with impressive faux timber-framing. Within the core of the building, and around which the other structures have been erected, there is the remains of a 15th century hall-house (Structure A). An evaluation to the rear of the building noted a post-medieval brick-lined soakway/cesspit and a 19th century wall foundation, both of which are thought to be associated with this building. <2>
