Full Description

A nine-bay, single-storey, timber-framed and weather-boarded structure located on the east side of The Causeway, measuring c.25m x 7m in size. Although on the same footprint as a building shown on the 1839 tithe map, the modern machine-cut timber, rudimentary jointing and regular brickwork of the building’s plinth suggest it was rebuilt in the early/mid 20th century. The building was recorded by Colchester Archaeological Trust in 2019, prior to demolition.<1>

Based on the map regression (in the report), the earlier building was associated with the Grade II Listed Building (Aldecar, NHLE 1267663) to the north (now part of a separate property), which is dated to c.1800.<1>
