Description
A programme of historic building recording (Historic England Level 2) was carried out by Colchester Archaeological Trust on a building (prior to demolition) adjacent to Domus, Great Horkesley, in September 2019.<1>
The building is a nine-bay, single-storey, timber-framed and weather-boarded structure located on the east side of The Causeway, c.25m x 7m in size. Although on the same footprint as a building shown on the 1839 tithe map, the modern machine-cut timber, rudimentary jointing and regular brickwork of the building’s plinth suggested it was rebuilt in the early/mid 20th century.
