Full Description

Archaeological monitoring was undertaken in June 2016 during groundworks relating to the construction of two storey office/shop unit. The monitoring revealed two ditches (1003 and 1005) in section in opposing footing trenches. It is probable that these constitute the same feature, aligned NE to SW. One sherd of Samian pottery and a fragment of CBM was recovered from ditch 1005, giving the feature a date of early to mid/late 2nd century AD. The sherd was central Gaulish samian ware from Lezoux (LEZ SA 2), dated from the early to mid/late 2nd century.<1>
