Full Description
A fine pavement of geometric pattern with a large cantharus in the central octagon panel was found early in May 1881 in what was then Mrs Proser's garden (which was later bought by Messrs Mumford and built over) on the east side of Head Street. The pavement was recorded by Henry Laver. The position given is based on Cutt's plan.<1><2>
Crummy believes that the mosaic pavement discovered in Room 2 of Building 113 (MCC894) during excavations at Culver Street (ECC337) was 'almost certainly' the same as this, which would place it 45m to the north-east of the point marked on the map.<3>
