Description

Trenches cut across the Grammar School Playing Field (Field 1266a - marked on OS 1:2500, Epoch 4, now a playing field of Colchester County High School for Girls) in search of the line of a Roman road. Trenches were cut over long stretches across the line where the subsoil was found to be gravel. No traces of a road were found although a ditch was discovered.<1>
