Description

In 1934 the former Munford's Works was cleared for a car park, and with the co-operation of H.M.Ministry of Works the Museum was able to cut some exploratory trenches in the area. These were dug in the eastern half of the site. The investigation produced very little as it was found that the Roman levels lay nearly 9ft deep. A tessellated pavement was found. This part of the site was designated for a new library. <1>
