Description

On the initiative of the owner of No.18 North Hill (Mr. H. Lazell), a trench was cut near the east end of the garden. The trench ran N-S, the south end being 11 ft. 6 in. from the east wall and 33 ft. 6 in. from the south wall of the garden. <1> There are references to two walls (see ELM721 & ELM722) having been found in this trench but these are not marked on the sketch plan in Lavers Diary.<2>
