Description

Excavations were carried out by H.J & B.J.N. Edwards in their back garden situated on the 'Lord's Land'. The excavation aimed to uncover a suggested Roman road between the Balkerne Gate and the Grammar School. An area twenty feet by six feet was examined and revealed a Roman, metalled road with ditch and adjacent building which included the corner of a tessellated pavement.<1>
