Description

Excavation of Lexden Mount was carried out by the Morant Club under the direction of H. Laver and F. Reader. 'Digging was started on the west, 75 feet distant from the centre of the mound'. A 50 foot long and six foot wide trench was excavated, which was then was then enlarged into a 12 foot square shaft at the centre of the mound. The results of the dig were inconclusive but, from the available evidence, the burial mound was considered to be Roman.<1>
