Description

Excavation of five Roman potters kilns following discovery of black earth and pottery as a result of extra deep ploughing of field 496. Excavations were undertaken in March 1877 by Mr. G. Joslin with permission of the owner P.O. Papillon Esq., Lord of the Manor.<1> The initial discovery was by a Mrs. Kerry. When excavated the kilns were barely beneath the plough soil.<2>
