Description

Five trenches were excavated to test the presence and survival of archaeological deposits on a site on the north side of Hythe Hill which was due for redevelopment. Three trenches on the north side of the site were negative, but two trenches on the Hythe Hill frontage showed better survival. In one, a medieval or post-medieval masonry wall was revealed. In the second, a post-medieval cobbled surface was found overlying earlier medieval and post-medieval dumped soils.<1>
