Description

Eight trial holes were excavated to depths of approximately 4.8 metres by mechanical excavator on the site of a proposed development of low rise dwellings. Trial holes 1,2,3 and 4 revealed similar conditions with made and disturbed ground for the full depth of the holes. Trial holes 5,6 and 8 also revealed similar subsoil conditions with made and disturbed ground overlying light orange sand and gravel reached at a depth of 2.8 metres. Trial hole 7 revealed similarly made and disturbed ground, until at a depth of 3.3 metres, sand was encountered. The made ground comprised topsoil, flyash road metal, sand and gravel in a clay matrix. Nothing of archaeological significance was noted.<1>
