Description

The enclosure, known from cropmarks, lying on the north side of the Colne was excavated by R.J.M. Appleby in 1952. A trench was cut across one of the ditches and 'pottery was found in great abundance- all earlier than 1400' but 'the contents of the ditch below the water-level (i.e. at 5ft) have not been sampled'. The 'moat' explored was 14ft wide and at 5ft was full of water. A summary note has been published in CAR 11.<1> See also Colchester Museum Report. <2>
