Description

In October 1999 following a complaint about the condition of the Roman wall at No 3 Scheregate Steps, a brief inspection was made. The property in question is the upper storey of No 3 with access from the Sheregate Steps at first floor level. The premises are occupied by a hair salon. A large strip of Roman core is exposed behind timber uprights inside the salon, with further sections covered over by later walling. The wall was in poor condition owing to a problem with running water from the adjacent property. A flash light inspection of the attic revealed surviving pargetted plaster and wattle and daub framing.
