Description

In December 1925 painted wall inscriptions were found at 18 North Hill dating to c.AD 1500. These were photographed and the following record made 'These inscriptions are in black lettering on a white ground-work, four of them occupying the beam at the top of the north wall of the principal ground-floor house. Later ceilings had discovered the beam and it will be seen that the end portions have been injured and are almost indecipherable. Similar moral precepts probably occupied the beams at the top of the other three walls, but these have been obliterated. The cross-beams were possibly decorated with inscriptions, but the only words visible are "IN DOMINO CONFIDO" on one of these large cross-beams running south and north.' <1>
