Description

On going over No. 3 Riverside Walk (the middle cottage of three-timber-framed cottages), Mr. H.C.Carter observed that the principal joist across the ground floor ceiling appeared to be the lower part of a ships mast, which may also run through the next cottage to the east. The square butt is reduced to the cylindrical shaft by a chamfer-stop which appears to be of 16th century pattern.<1>
