Description

Note in a 'History of the County of Essex (Volume IX)' that a two storey market cross was in place, to the west of St Runwald's church, by c.1590.<1> A later note records that the market cross was situated opposite the Moot Hall and was in use until 1801, when it became a guard house before finally being demolished in 1808.<2>
