Description

The 'square' of Anchor Hill is believed to be the medieval marketplace in one of the earliest parts of the town. Historic Environment Record SMR19781. High St, West St and East St all run into Anchor Hill and there is short lane down to the Quay. There was some infilling with the building of the Old Bakehouse in 16C. Butler refers to stocks, whipping, post and cage almost certainly being sited there.
