Full Description

Set up in March 1915 this is one of two Royal Flying Corps night emergency landing grounds in Essex chosen directly by the War Office. It occupied 55 acres and was designated a First Class Site. Flying activity stopped in 1919 when it was handed back to the Army. <1>.

The site is now partially covered by an infants school and housing estate. It is very unlikely that any traces of its use as a WWI airfield survive above or below ground. <2>.
