Description

DOE survey of Roman Temple Precinct Wall in Castle Park. Grade II. C1 or later. Two fragments of the northern boundary of the temple enclosure, there are extensive remains beneath the Norman ramparts. Discovered during the landscaping of the park in 1892 when a path was run through the wall. The fragment to the west of the path measures 2ft by 3ft by 2ft, that on the east 10ft by 3ft by 3.5ft. Both are stone and capped with modern concrete slabs (RCHM35).<1>
