Full Description

A Parliamentary Report of 1777 records a parish workhouse in Boxted for up to 30 inmates. Presumably, the residents would have been transferred to Lexden, Colchester, following the introduction of the 1834 Poor Act and the construction of the Lexden and Winstree Union Workhouse in 1836 (MCC4544).
