Building record MCC9280 - Livery Stable at Crepping Hall Farm, Wakes Colne

Summary

The stable, to the east of Crepping Hall, range dates from 1928, on the site of a Victorian predeccesor, and was built as a high status stable for riding horses (with an integral open-sided cart lodge to the east) by Dr R.M. Courtauld, a member of an affluent textile manufacturing family. The fixtures and fittings had been removed to accommodate late 20th century loose boxes of cement blockwork. It is listed in error as an early 19th century structure.

Full Description

A group of farm buildings (in use as a livery stable), to the east of Crepping Hall (within a moated enclosure), were recorded at English Heritage Level 3 in advance of conversion.<1> The stable range dates from 1928, on the site of a Victorian predeccesor, and was built as a high status stable for riding horses by Dr R.M. Courtauld.
