Full Description

Walcott's Farm is a historic farmstead located to the southwest of the settlement of Great Tey. It was first shown on the 1897-1904 Epoch 2 map to be a large detached site made up of sixteen buildings. Between 1904 and 1922 the site split in half to form Walcott's Farm to the northwest and Walcott's Hall to the southeast. Walcott's Hall changed in use to residential when this happened. Over 50% of the original buildings survive, including the Grade II listed c.1823 Walcotts Hall (LB Number: 1267433). The other buildings were demolished between 1923 and 1955. There is also a Grade II listed late C18 garden wall extending from Walcotts Hall (LB Number: 1223179). There have been some modern buildings and extensions added to the site, especially to the original buildings that now form Walcott's Farm. The Epoch 2 map shows three historic landscape features on the site that have survived. These are a farm pond just to the west of Walcott's Hall, a historic woodland just to the south of it, and a historic well located just to the ortheast of the hall. <1>
