Full Description

Teybrook Farm is a historic farmstead located to the south of the settlement of Great Tey. It is first shown on the 1897-1904 Epoch 2 map to be a large detached site, made up of sixteen buildings. Over 50% of the original buildings survive, including four listed buildings. These are the Grade II listed C16 Teybrook Farmhouse (LB Number: 1223156), the Grade II listed early C16 granary to the northwest of Teybrook Farmhouse (LB Number: 1223157), the Grade II listed C16 stables to the south of Teybrook Farmhouse (LB Number: 1267423), and the Grade II listed C16 barn to the southeast of Teybrook Farmhouse (LB number: 1267424). There were two other listed buildings, two barns to the south and southwest of the farmhouse. However, one was delisted for unknown reasons, and one burned down in 2007. This barn is currently being rebuilt. Most of the buildings that were demolished disappeared before 1922. The granary and one of the barns seem to have been converted into dwellings, another one to the southeast of the farmhouse seems to have become a completely separate site, with modern extensions and accessways. The use of the site is difficult to determine, as most of the outbuildings seem to have been converted into residential, but the modern buildings to the south could be used for agricultural or storage purposes. There has also been some extensions and alterations to the farmhouse. In terms of historic landscape features, the Roman River runs just north of the farmhouse, with buildings shown on the Epoch 2 map to be above the river, making it part of the site. <1>
