Full Description
Mascott's Farm is a historic farmstead located on the edge of the settlement of Copford, shown on the Chapman & Andre 1777 map and also on the 1874-1887 Epoch 1 map, set back (to the south of) London Road and adjacent to School Road. The farm buildings are located to the south of the house, forming a L-shape around the a pond on the Epoch 1 map. The farmstead was a large detached site, made up of nine buildings. However, only the Grade II listed house, Mascott's, remains (LB Number: 1225571). The other buildings were demolished after the farmland was sold off for building in the 1960s.
Mascotts was surveyed by Richard Shackle in 1996 during renovations. The core of the house consists of a 14th century crosswing and a 16th century in-line structure, comprising a floored hall and a separate end bay.<1>
Extent of farmstead plotted (approx.) from the Epoch 1 1:2500 map (1874-87).
