Full Description
Theobald's Farm is a historic farmstead located to the west of the settlement of Tiptree, first shown on the 1897-1904 Epoch 2 map. It was a large interlinked site, forming a single courtyard from a farmhouse and three interlinked barns. Less than 50% of the site remains, leaving only the Grade II listed c. 1600 Theobalds Farmhouse (LB Number: 1224936) and one other outbuilding that seems to have been converted into a double garage/workshop. The other buildings were demolished between 1923 and 1955. One outbuilding to the west of the farmhouse was demolished earlier, between 1904 and 1922. The farmhouse was extended in 1996 to add a porch, and a modern stable block was added to the northwest in 2010. The map showed a farm pond to the south of the site, but that was removed between 1958 and 1972. The site's use is believed to now be residential. <1>
