Full Description
Gallows Green is originally shown on the 1777 Chapman & Andre Historic Map, located to the west of Eight Ash Green. The green is shown on this map to be roughly triangular in shape, with an area of x.1.3ha. The map shows five groups of buildings on the edge of the green. One of these seems to be the Grade II listed C15 Old Hill House (LB Number: 1110893).<1>
Gallows Green is then shown on the County Series at 1:2500 Scale Epoch 1 Historic Map (1874-1887), with another listed building that has appeared on the edge of the green, which is the Grade II listed mid C19 Green Farmhouse (LB Number: 1170055).
The modern green is a similar shape and size to the Epoch 1 version, except there has been an increased number of houses built around its edge. <2>
