Full Description

Malting Green is shown on the County Series at 1:2500 Scale Epoch 1 Historic Map (1874-1887), located to the east of the settlement of Layer de la Haye. The green is an irregularly shaped site, with an area of 1.849ha. There are a number of buildings built along the edge of the green, including six listed buildings. These include the Grade II listed C16 Great House Farmhouse (LB Number: 1223948), the Grade II listed C17 house Reeves (LB Number: 1267079), the Grade II listed C18 outbuilding to the east of Reeves (LB Number: 1223912), the Grade II listed C17 Malting Green Cottage (LB Number: 1267078), the Grade II listed C17 Gaye Cottage (LB Number: 1223910) and the Grade II* listed early C18 Malting Green Cottage (LB Number: 1223909). The modern green is the same shape and size as the Epoch 1 map, however, there has been an increase in the number of listed buildings around its edge. <1>
