Large sub-circular enclosure(c.105m in diameter) joined by a short ditched trackway to a smaller pear shaped enclosure. The smaller enclosure two entrances in its eastern side, a further short stretch of funnel-shaped trackway leads out from one of these and swings round to the south east. 'It is comparable to the so-called `banjo' enclosures of Wessex, which are interpreted as stock corrals. Some excavated examples date to the 2nd-1st century B.C.' The Dedham enclosure has no parallels in Essex but, from the large size of any cropmark enclosures, many must have been farm or stock yards. A very broad ditched trackway aligned north-south cuts the stretch of trackway linking the two enclosures, it aligns with an existing lane to the north and a belt of woodland/lane to the south.
