Full Description

Hawkes & Crummy record, 'Three sections were dug across the ditch of the dyke. The ditch was found to be 25 ft [7.6m] wide. It appeared to be unusually shallow (4-5 ft) ([1.2-1.5]) in two of the trenches but more as might be expected in the third (no depth given). Pottery near the assumed base of the ditch in Trench 2 was thought at the time to be Anglo-Saxon but is now dated to the Iron Age.'<1> See also <2>-<4>
