Full Description

A shallow depression or spread ditch running in a straight line for about 400m to the South of Burgis Hall. The site appears on stereoscope vertical photography from 1946. It i also noticable, from both the AP's and the OS 1st edition 6" map, that the line of the depression continues in a pond/hedge to the south of the Hall and as a tree-lined hedgerow to the north-east. The general orientation of the line cuts across the 1st edition field system lay out. <1>-<4>

Thought to be the remains of a rectangular garden (noted as such on a map of 1675 in the E.R.O.:D/Dwe P2) at Old Bourchiers Hall. The name of the hall is copied from an unfortunate misprint of the O.S. map on this edition (see the new Bourchiers Hall) <5>
