Full Description

Construction of rear extenxion, 39-41 North Hill. Foundation trenches revealed many post medieval pits cutting through what appeared to be dumped sandy clay (Roman) containing a few lumps of white mortar, oyster shells and one redeposited lump of opus signinuum. The fragment of floor and the sandy clay, presumably from daub walls, indicate the likely presence of the remains of a Roman building on this site. <1>
