Full Description

In 1978 work began erecting private houses over a large backfilled quarry pit (Everetts brickyard). The S boundary of the pit coincided closely with that of the new housing estate, therefore there was unlikely to be any further disturbance of the archaeology. Various Roman graves were found. <1> Given the proximity of this site to Saxon artefacts and bones found in 1971 and 1972 by a metal detector user (PRN13763) it is possible that some of the skeletal remains could have been of Saxon date.
