Full Description

Housing development, S of West Mersea church in an area where mosaic and tessellated pavements previously found. The contractors trenches cut through the remains of a Roman building. ONly one foundation recorded - of greensand. To the S were possible remains of the base of a tessellated pavement or mosaic. All the finds were unstratified; most notable were moulded fragments of Roman plaster and probably C2 pottery. A post medieval wall recorded on the site (see 13281) contined Roman tile. <1>
