Full Description

The fourth street from the west of Roman Colchester walled town. Only one exposure. During excavations for a gas main in 1927 along the N pavement of High Street a heavy gravel layer was noticed under the front entrance of no.119 (TL 99712523). It had the appearance of a street running N-S, of width 18ft with gravel metalling 12" thick and only 18" below the surface. The position fits in well with the general plan. <1> <2>
