Full Description

The OS 1:500 map marks `Roman tessellated pavement found' under the E side of property in Victoria Place opposite the centre of the Baptist Church. No date is given but Wire in a letter to Roach Smith published in source 3 says; "In Victoria Place, at the south-west corner a fine pavement was discovered some years since, but of what character does not now occur to me ... it was about six or eight feet square, and 2 urns were standing upon it, one partly in the other". "The position is not at the SW corner of Victoria Place but near its north end". <1> <2> <3> Other refs. <4> <5>
