Summary

In September 1930 a well-built Roman wall of tiles in white mortar was cut through under the N kerb of High Street directly opposite the die of the War Memorial and 40ft S of it.

Full Description

In September 1930 a well-built Roman wall of tiles in white mortar was cut through under the N kerb of High Street directly opposite the die of the War Memorial and 40ft S of it. It ran N-S and was 4ft thick. The trench was shallow so only 1ft of the height was seen. Its position is anomalous. It was recorded with measured section by EJ Rudsdale and in Lavers Diary. <1> <2>
