Full Description

Remains of walling exposed opposite the `Cross Key' in Culver Street 1922. These were difficult to follow from Laver's sketches. Most important was a portion extending for more than 12ft along the N side of the street. The top of the wall was 4ft below the surface; the wall stood 6ft high. Layers of tile and stone. In addition to this the sketches show in two places that an oblique wall (or walls) was cut, SE-NW. Mr EJ Rudsdale records that walls and pavements were again seen here in Sept 1936. <1>
