Full Description

the Cross Keys Inn was part of a floor of Roman tiles laid on a bed of concrete of pounded brick. The entry notes that "opposite St Nicholas Church rather more to the east, was a wall foundation". Hull observes that "east is probably an error for west or St Nicholas for All Saints". <1> Other refs. <2> <3> Very hard foundation of septaria and floor of Roman tiles found Oct 1848 under Culver Street E of Long Wyre Street, opposite the backway to the Cross Keys Inn. <4>
