Full Description

When the new buildings for the Colchester Co-operative Society were erected in 1925 a foundation about 3ft thick was discovered running the whole length of the site from N to S and apparently lining up with other heavy foundations recorded by Wire (13044, 13045). A well was found E of the wall (post-Roman). In the SE corner of the site were large masses of burnt clay "such as are found in the neighbourhood of pottery kilns". <1>
