Full Description

Wire reported in 1849 "opposite St Nicholas' Church ....... was a wall foundation of the usual adhesive character". From Laver's diary, 1922: "In Culver Sreet, opposite no.37 (corner of the Co-operative Stores) the sewer trench exposed a Roman wall running N-S,the top was 5ft from the surface". The wall was 3.5ft wide, of stone with no tile. This may be the same wall as that noted by Wire (above) or another parallel to it. <1> <2> <3> Foundations found 1848 under Culver Street, S of St Nicholas graveyard and immediately W of Long Wyre Street. <4> <5>
