"At the back of no.17 High Street (NB. this would place the site in Insula 27) close to the back door at the end of the passage from Culver Street, and under the wall of the adjacent no.18 is a well about 60-70ft deep. The exact position is under an arch in the wall, close to the ground". It is c.6ft in diameter, made of Roman materials and stuccoed from top to bottom. <1>
