Full Description

In January 1922 a pavement was found immediately inside the NE corner of Lion Walk when sinking a petrol tank. The plain red floor was tilted towards the middle where it was spoilt by a pit of uncertain date. The end of a Roman wall 3ft thick just showed in the S face of the excavation. The pavement was 2.5ft to 4.6ft from the surface. <1> <2>
