Full Description

In 1748 and subsequently a tessellated pavement has been uncovered in the garden of Trinity House, nearly 3ft below the surface. <1> "In the beginning of the yer 1748 (a tessellated pavement) was discovered in the garden of Peter Creffield, now of James Round Esq, in the parish of Holy Trinity east (not west as RCHM has it) of Trinity Street, in the garden of Trinity House..... It was near three foot under the surface of the ground". It was c.3ft wide, 15ft long, damaged at the sides. Base and fragments of a figured urn, coin of Constantine found. <1> <2> Other refs. <3> <4> <5> <6>
